The Tampa Draft Tournament is coming this January to save us from the winter cold. Tampa is known for its beautiful beaches, vibrant culture, and delicious seafood. On Jan 28-30th the week after the tournament, is Tampa’s Gasparilla Pirate Fest. The third largest parade in the United States, the Parade of Pirates is attended by 300,000 onlookers, many donning period-themed pirate garb. The festivities continue into the evening at the Gasparilla Pirate Fest Street Festival with live music, food and entertainment.
Running with that pirate connection, Tampa also has a connection to the beloved story of Peter Pan. In 1904, J.M. Barrie, the author of Peter Pan, visited the city and was inspired by the beauty of the area to include it in his story. In the book, the character of Peter Pan takes Wendy and the Lost Boys to the “Neverland” island, which is believed to be based on the nearby island of Davis Islands in Tampa Bay. So, while Tampa may be known for its rich history and vibrant culture, it will always hold a special place in the hearts of fans of the magical story of Peter Pan.. This Tampa we celebrate – PETER PAN.
